Cold motor rally
Dates - March.
Type of a
rally - The rally is run according to a regularity.
Main criteria - The most important terms are reliability of a vehicle and keeping to the
traffic schedule. The traffic schedule is conducted according to the traffic law
concerning seasonal (winter) and public roads.
Routs and traffic schedules are set individually for every group according to a model of a
vehicle as well as driving skills of a participant such as amateur, professional,
sportsman.
Major federal partner - Northern branch of Automotive Test and Certificate Research Center
of The Committee on Standardization of Russian Federation, Susuman, Magadanskaya oblast
(350 km from Tomtor).
Total duration is 15 days. These are 13 days on a rout, whereas traffic is for 11 days
(250-920 km per day).
Total run is 5000 km.
Day 1.
Yakutsk. Casting of lots, additional competition, instructing.
Lap 1.
Day 2: Yakutsk - Berdigestiakh - Vilyuisk.
Day 3: Vilyuisk - Nyurba - Mirny.
Day 4: Taking a rest in Mirny.
Lap 2.
Day 5: Mirny - Suntar - Verkhnevilyuisk.
Day 6: Verkhnevilyuisk - Yakutsk
Day 7-8: Yakutsk - Tomtor.
Day 9: Taking
a rest in Tomtor (Oimyakon).
Lap 3.
Day 10: Tomtor - Susuman (Magadanskaya oblast).
Day 12: Susuman - Ust-Nera.
Day 13: Ust-Nera - Khandyga.
Day 14: Khandyga - Ytyk-Kyuyel (Cherkekh) - Churapcha.
Day 15: Churapcha - Maya - Oktemtsy ("Orto-doydu") - Yakutsk.
Day 16: Yakutsk. Closing ceremony.
Key points of a rally
Yakutsk is the capital of the Republic. It is the oldest city on Yakut territory. It was
established in
1632. A
quarter of the entire population of the Republic lives in Yakutsk. It is the governmental,
scientific, and cultural center of the Republic. Excellent theaters, rich museums, modern
art galleries, top sport arenas, all welcome visitors.
Mirny is the capital of the diamond province. Mirny uluss is the major diamond mining
center. Sightseeing in the city, its attractions, and its social and economic life, are
all related to diamonds.
Part of automotive rout goes along a unique road built by GULAG prisoners during the
Stalinist era. Participants have an opportunity to see for themselves and be witness to
that dramatic time. There are carved bridges, barracks, and other remaining constructions
concentration camps. Tourists can also find some fragments of Aircobra aircrafts, crashed
while ferrying aircrafts during Wold War II.
Tomtor. The point of absolute cold of the Northern Hemisphere. The lowest negative
temperature of -71.2°C was recorded there in 1926. All visitors receive the Pole of Cold
Certificate.
