The
"Druzba" Lensky Historic-Architectural Museum and Reserve
The museum
is located on the right bank of the Lena river. It was the first location of the Lensky
ostrog, a stockaded town, built by Russian pioneers, that later became the city of
Yakutsk. It was the base for the ocean expeditions of exploration of Semen Dezhnev, Ivan
Moscvin, and Erophey Khabarov.
The core of the museum is a copy of the Spasskaya church of the Zashiverskiy ostrog. The
church is surrounded by pieces of historic architecture of the people of Yakutia.
The museum
is a good place to learn about the culture of the indigenous people of Sakha Republic,
such as Even, Evenk, Yukagir, Dolgan, and Chukchy. The museum offers a great variety of
attractions. Examples are Yakut kumiss tableware, the national dress of the nineteenth and
twentieth centuries, fine woman's jewelry, yakut saddles, and an ancient burial site.
Visitors learn about famous Yakut public and cultural figures as well as Russian
missionaries who educated the peoples of Yakutia and converted them to Christianity.
Enchanting landscapes, national cuisine, cozy guest cabins and interesting historical
